Trapping Information

Trapping is highly recommended by Arizona Fish and Game when used in cooperation with complete nesting treatment. We agree with this philosophy when the flock size exceeds 15-20 birds and when the upper perches are also treated. Without trapping, we realize long-term results of well over 90% with products that will discourage new flocks as well. Trapping is a temporary solution at best when used alone. Trapping rarely gets the entire flock.

Improper trapping produces trap- and bait-smart pigeons that will taunt you for years. If a contractor tells you they will charge to trap by the month a red flag should go up. By the way, eliminating the flock by shooting or self-poisoning is illegal. Professionals claim “Euthanizing” is done with a chemical called Avitrol. This is a very destructive and illegal way to kill birds as the product produces severe mental distress, seizures and overkill. It is against the law to use a 'pesticide' in a manner that is inconsistent with its labeling. Avitrol is a pesticide that is intended to be diluted to produce hallucinagenic effects. When illegally used at full strength, pigeons experience internal bleeding, neurolgical distress, and suicidal behavior.

Trapping should be done in about 3 weeks and before any work is started. Birds should think there is a large bird feeder on your roof. Doors should be left open for 2 weeks to pre-bait with food and a couple gallons of water. Traps are emptied at least every other day. Traps must be big enough to handle the whole flock at once and also provide sufficient shade.

If your birds were trapped before please tell us so we can customize a more efficient trapping regimen. We permanently relocate birds according to AZ Game and Fish guidelines. You can expect over 90% of the flock to be trapped. There will always be a possibility every bird is not trapped or might sneak out when being removed.

There are so many companies that only trap or poison that these birds have become trap and bait smart.

This company also contracted us for better results since their trapping became less and less effective.  By the way, there is no water and ther are 3 dead birds in this trap.

The neighborhood continues to pay for trapping and poisoning which were rendered ineffective long ago.  We installed an aggressive single-wire electric shock system on this roof which resulted in complete relocation of the flock.

This company tells people they do not need to do anything but trap.  We were called to get better results because their trapping became less and less effective.

White represents urine stains that identify exactly where the birds stand.  Activity like this must include trapping or the birds will just move to a clean or untreated spot.

There is nothing but trapping that can be done to keep the birds out of trees.

Palm trees must be trimmed very closely to take away the large ledges left by untrimmed fronds.  Regular palm trees can have a canvas bag stapled below the branches to exclude easy access to these nesting and perching areas.

I am amazed how often a company will bid to treat this type of activity with just trapping or just nesting.  The best results would come from trapping first than nesting and perching applications.  You must consider taking away what brought them here in the first place.

If you can’t see it, how do you know your contractor is treating it right?

It is important for your contractor to know if you have trapped or poisoned before.  This long time resident did not want to share with us that their poisoning contract was no longer effective.  The poison pans are rarely removed by contractors.

This is another company that only traps.  There is no shade and no water in the trap which leads one to believe they are not concerned with dead birds in their trap creating trap-smart birds.

Technically, these systemic poison strips are no longer legal because they kill everything that touches them.  Even contractors are warned to not touch.

This trap, set by one of the 2 largest pest control companies in the nation is illegal, no shade or water and fully concentrated poison corn inside.
